Days 3 & 4: Dining Out

Days 3 and 4 were definitely very interesting. I had my first experiences eating out at restaurants, and I seriously tested my will power to say no to my favorite things (bread and butter, frozen yogurt, yummy desserts, bacon-wrapped scallops...)

To say the very least, I was definitely "that" person when we went out to eat. I told the servers up front that I had some dietary restrictions and that I would be asking a lot of questions about how things were prepared. I definitely asked a lot of questions. (Sorry, servers. Wherever you are.)

Here's a recap of day 3.

Breakfast – 10:20 am

  • Mushroom and sausage frittata (from the Whole30 Cookbook) with Frank’s original red hot sauce

Lunch – 2:40 pm

  • Salmon with salt, pepper, and Slap Ya Mama Cajun seasoning

  • Broccoli, yellow squash, and mushrooms with a roasted red pepper sauce

  • Side of blueberries

I ended up taking a nap after lunch. I’m not sure if I put myself in a food coma or if I was just really tired…

Snack – 6:30 pm

  • Blueberry RXBAR

Dinner – 9:00 pm

  • 10 oz. filet mignon (medium rare)

  • Baked potato with green onions, salt, pepper, and clarified butter

  • Dessert of raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, blueberries

This dinner was my first meal out, and let me tell you, this tested ALL of my will power. ALL. OF. IT. I was out to dinner with my boyfriend (Sewell), one of our roommates (Mike), and his girlfriend (Emma).

First was the bread and butter. I swear to you the smell of the freshly baked bread, which was placed on the opposite side of the table, wafted directly into my nose. TORTURE, I TELL YOU.

Next came the wine. Sewell and Mike ordered two bottles of wine from the steakhouse’s sommelier, and since I couldn’t drink them, I smelled them. I have never wanted wine more in my life. (I just drank a lot of water instead.)

After that, we had appetizers. Bacon-wrapped scallops on this delicious, melt-in-your-mouth bread. There’s no chance the bacon was Whole30-compliant, so I just sat and watched as they ate them. *crying*

Then dinner. That was the easiest part. I just had to ask that the steak not be cooked in butter and that the baked potato come with nothing other than the green onion. I brought my own clarified butter in a small container. When I tell you I was that person at dinner, I was THAT PERSON.

Finally. Desserts. My one true weakness. Not only did the server present the 9(ish) options to us from the dessert cart, but my lovely dinner companions ordered two of them. I, however, got a side of fresh berries. They were delicious. Just probably not as delicious as the peach cobbler and the chocolate “turtle” pie.

And for day 4...

Breakfast – 11:00 am

  • Leftover mushroom and sausage frittata with Frank’s red hot

  • 2 slices of Pederson’s bacon

  • Green tea with black tea from Starbucks (no water, no sweetener)

My breakfast was pretty late because I went to a workout class at 9:30 am.

Snack – 3:15 pm

  • Mixed berry RXBAR

Dinner – 7:15 pm

  • Grilled shrimp with asparagus

This was my second adventure out to eat. We went to SaltAir Seafood Kitchen. This dinner was pretty easy to navigate, but again, I had to ask the server one too many questions about how the dishes were prepared.

After dinner, Sewell, Mike, and Emma got frozen yogurt. It all smelled so yummy, but I think the only thing I could have eaten would have been the strawberries and bananas.

Late-Night Snack – 9:00 pm

  • Small handful of blueberries and strawberries

  • Hard-boiled egg

  • Granny smith apple with cashew butter

So, I’m definitely going to try to avoid eating this late, but as you can see, I didn’t actually eat lunch today. We were biking all around town, going to museums, and we just didn’t have a chance to eat lunch. I was still really hungry after dinner, so when we got home, we watched Hidden Figures, and I ate my snack.

I did end up working out on both days as well! I did a Bodypump class on day 3, and a Bodypump class on day 4. I don't typically like to lift weights two days in a row, but I wanted to bring Emma along and show her Bodypump on Saturday morning.

That's all for now!
